Graduate Research Scholarships

AC values its HDR community and provides a substantial level of financial support to students in all disciplines. Scholarships are awarded twice each year through a merit-based process. Scholarships are offered to students (typically doctoral students) with excellent academic merit and research potential. All scholarship applicants must currently be enrolled in an HDR degree, or have submitted an application for enrolment.

This scholarship provides financial support, in the form of a fee subsidy, to students undertaking HDR research at AC. This is a merit-based scholarship for students with a demonstrated record of academic excellence.

This scholarship is available for full-time or part-time students, for the standard duration of an HDR degree. The scholarship is available for commencing or recently commenced HDR students (typically enrolled for less than a year full-time equivalent). At the end of the standard duration, a six-month extension may be granted if the candidate is making good progress toward submission.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Alphacrucis Higher Degree Scholarship, applicants must:

  • be accepted for entry to (or recently enrolled in) an HDR degree at AC;
  • have a record of academic excellence and a demonstrated research potential;
  • recipients must maintain satisfactory progress as a research candidate at AC.

This scholarship is funded by a partnership between AC and Mission Australia, for qualitative research on community chaplaincy in Australia. The scholarship provides up to $60,000 of financial support for PhD students over 3 years (full-time).

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Mission Australia Chaplaincy Research Scholarship, applicants must:

  • be planning to undertake qualitative social research on chaplaincy in Australia;
  • be accepted for entry to (or recently enrolled in) a doctoral degree at AC;
  • recipients must maintain satisfactory progress as a research candidate at AC.

This scholarship provides financial support, in the form of a full fee subsidy, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to undertake their HDR research at Alphacrucis University College.

Enrolled HDR students facing financial difficulties may be eligible for a financial assistance scholarship, in the form of a fee subsidy. Students can apply at any time during their enrolment, typically for up to 2 semesters of financial support.

This grant is available to assist HDR candidates with travel costs (up to $1500) associated with research-related activities that will enhance their thesis. Research-related activities may include the following:

  • presenting at an academic conference;
  • data collection, including conducting interviews in a field location.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for this grant, you must:

  • be currently enrolled in an HDR course;
  • have successfully completed your Confirmation of Candidature milestone;
  • not have submitted for examination;
  • submit evidence of acceptance of your peer-reviewed conference submission, if you are applying to travel to a conference.

Students wishing to apply should email their request directly to the Director of the Graduate Research School.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist HDR candidates to write-up and submit their theses for examination. Typically the scholarship takes the form of a full tuition subsidy for one semester, for students who are in the final stage of completing their thesis.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • be able to demonstrate readiness to complete the thesis for submission within the next semester;
  • have the unqualified support of your principal supervisor that you are close to completing the thesis.

Students interested in applying should complete the Thesis Write-Up Scholarship application form; applications can be received at any time during the year.

This grant supports HDR candidates during the preparation of journal articles or books based on the research thesis submitted for examination. The grant is valued at up to $2000.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this grant, you need to:

  • have submitted your thesis for examination within the past 3 months;
  • have an achievable plan to produce high-quality research publications from the thesis;
  • have the support of your supervisors.

Students interested in applying should complete the Thesis Publication Grant application form within 3 months of submitting their thesis for examination.
