IT Systems Support Officer

About this Opportunity:

The IT Systems Support Officer, under the guidance and mentoring of the IT Systems Manager, has responsibility for ongoing technical management and vendor management of various key AC infrastructure systems, including monitoring, upgrades, security, continuous improvement and documentation, to achieve optimal business Return on Investment for those systems.

The current primary focus of this role is server and networking infrastructure, both on-premises and cloud hosted (currently including AWS)

Over time there may be opportunity to extend the scope of the role to other key AC systems.

Current Infrastructure technologies in use at AC include:

  • VMware virtualization
  • Dell servers, SAN and networking
  • CyberHound & Palo Alto Firewalls and Routers
  • IPSec VPN’s
  • Microsoft Active Directory
  • Veeam Backup solutions
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Mitel Telephony
  • Microsoft Windows and Ubuntu server operating systems

The role requires demonstrated understanding of and experience in a broad knowledge of IT Service Management / ITIL processes (particularly Incident and Change) and aligning technology solutions with business requirements and value.

Some interaction with the business owners and key stakeholders of various services is required.

This role also assists with providing second level support for all IT and related infrastructure including workplace computing (desktop/laptop hardware & software), printing, telephony, networking, and audio-visual / videoconferencing systems, across all AC campuses and remote connections for staff and students.

The role liaises with other second level (other internal / external) and third level (vendor) support to address all incidents and service requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Second Level IT infrastructure support
  • Design, implementation, upgrading, management & documentation of all AC IT Infrastructure solutions and security
  • Systems integrations, including continuous improvement

Required Skills and Proficiencies:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science / Information Technology, or equivalent, is essential
  • Relevant industry technical accreditation is desirable
  • Demonstrated commercial experience in infrastructure management, including associated systems, is essential
  • Demonstrated commercial experience in scripting & database management (Bash, Python, PowerShell, MSSQL & MySQL, or equivalents), is essential
  • Experience using key ITSM / ITIL processes is desirable but not essential
  • Demonstrable experience with security practices and techniques and monitoring solutions.
  • Broad understanding of IT systems, with specific familiarity with cloud, IP networking including switching/routing, firewalls, cybersecurity, wireless, server virtualisation, storage, authentication, Windows, and Linux required
  • Understanding of and commercial experience in both cloud and on-premise hosting models and SaaS vendor management
  • Broad, holistic understanding of how IT is used to support and enable mission critical business activities
  • Broad understanding of the tertiary education sector desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery and business continuity practices
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated success in internal customer service and vendor relationship management
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
