AC welcomes Dr David Hastie

Alphacrucis College, a self-accrediting higher education provider and the national College of Australian Christian Churches, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr David Hastie to the Faculty of Education, Arts and Social Sciences. Dr Hastie, who has wide experience in strategy and innovation in Christian and church-based schools, will be taking up the role of Associate Dean, Education Development, reporting to the Dean (Professor Mark Hutchinson).  Dr Hastie’s previous experience in strategic development at the Sydney Anglican Schools Corporation, and as an innovation leader at Presbyterian Ladies College, Croydon, fit him perfectly for a position which is aimed at supporting Christian schools in their pursuit of excellence as an increasingly significant part of the Australian social mosaic.
Dr Hastie has been an active contributor to public policy debate, and in writing, speaking and promoting Teaching and Learning, school system growth, and religious education. His PhD thesis investigated the “religious effect” of NSW Protestant schools, and the social implications of the rising phenomenon of religion intersecting with Australian education. He has published on such topics as “self-censorship” in the selection of English texts (his key disciplinary area when working in schools), and the challenges of Christian schooling in a plural society. He is a founding member of the peak body for English studies in Christian schools, sits on the Executive Committee of the NSW Institute for Education Research and is a respected member of other community organizations. His role will include expanding on these themes through the Faculty’s Centre for the Future of Schooling.
In his position at Alphacrucis College, David will be leading the development of specific solutions to the challenges faced by Christian schooling in Australia, through his work as a schools partnership consultant, PhD supervisor, researcher and lecturer. The very significant growth of school aged populations on the edges of Australia’s conurbations present significant opportunities for public/ private partnerships and for innovative practice.  David will lead the design and implementation efforts of Alphacrucis College in education as the College grows towards its aspiration of becoming Australia’s first full-spectrum Protestant Christian University.
