The purpose of this policy is to outline the parameters of research activities conducted by Alphacrucis College (AC) faculty and postgraduate research students, as well as the provision of resources required.


All research activities of the College


Research is defined as the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings. This could include synthesis and analysis of previous research to the extent that it leads to new and creative outcomes. The goals of AC Research activities will be informed by the AC Strategic Plan and aligned with the college’s research priorities.

Academic staff with an allocation of research time are expected to be research active in their areas of disciplinary expertise. Research activity is typically demonstrated through regular publications in high quality peer-reviewed outlets, participation in original research, and funded projects.

AC is committed to supporting faculty research through allocation of research time where appropriate, funding support for conference travel, and opportunities for internal and external collaborative research. AC is committed to providing support to HDR students in the form of research supervision and induction, funding for conference travel, and work stations.

Research Policy Procedure

Approval of Student Research Projects

Proposals for research activities by students will be reviewed and approved by the Research Committee, in consultation where appropriate with the Human Research Ethics Committee for proposals involving human participants that present more than minimal risk.

Approval of Faculty External Funding Applications

AC faculty members who intend to participate in funded collaborative research with external parties should discuss this with their Dean of Faculty before making commitments to external parties. This is advised for AC faculty members seeking external funding for their own research.

Faculty Research Allocations

Faculty research time allocations will be determined by the Dean of Faculty in consultation with the Director of Research. Members of faculty will be expected to meet certain objectives to retain their research time allocations.

Funding for Conference Travel: Faculty

Requests for faculty conference travel funding is done through an application process in which members of faculty apply for conference travel funding to the Research Committee as part of the college’s annual budget cycle. Permanent faculty members of .5 FTE or more are eligible to apply.
