Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate a systemic and critical understanding of contemporary issues related to and impacting on education as framed within education theory and literature;
  2. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of research designs in education;
  3. Critically evaluate the validity, usefulness and consequences of different approaches to education research;
  4. Formulate a plan to improve pedagogy in line with a completed research project;
  5. Display an advanced level of integrative reflection which will inform and enhance Christian educational practice in the chosen field.

Subject Content

  • Contemporary issues in education research
  • Choosing valid education research designs: observational; experimental; quasi-experimental (including group randomised trials); narrative; phenomenological; grounded theory; ethnographical; interviews and focus groups
  • Quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods
  • Literature review and planning
  • Ethical considerations and data collection
  • Reporting findings’ validity and reliability and the application of action research to personal improvement

This course may be offered in the following formats

  • Distance/E-Learning (online)
  • Intensive (Two weeks (not necessarily consecutive): 7 hours per day for 10 days = 70 class hours + 170 hours out of class time for research, writing, exam preparation and execution, ancillary activities associated with completion of assigned tasks)
  • Extensive (10 days spread over the semester)
