Details for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
This subject aims to introduce students to the theory and practice of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Students will gain insights into the main theories, concepts and skills of CBT and the way in which they are applied to a variety of counselling scenarios. This intensive will give students the opportunity to experience and deliver CBT skills. Students will also develop skills in case formulation using a cognitive-behavioural approach.

Unit Content
Outcomes
- Recognise several of the more prominent cognitive behavioural therapies and identify the major differences and similarities;
- Apply the conceptualization skills and therapeutic techniques of CBT to yourself and others;
- Structure and format therapy sessions to create a collaborative relationship between client and therapist, guiding clients in significant self-discoveries that will facilitate change;
- Examine limitations and criticisms of the cognitive behavioural approaches and recognize the consistencies between cognitive behavioural therapy and Christian beliefs.

- The application and practice of cognitive behavioural therapy techniques
- Developing the art of Socratic dialogue in guiding clients in significant self discoveries
- Structuring and formatting cognitive behavioural therapy sessions
- Limitations of cognitive behavioural therapy
- Facilitating student self awareness
- Understanding the connection between cognitive processes and distress
