Dr Esa Hukkinen

Biography

Dr Esa Hukkinen holds Bachelor\'s and Master\'s degrees in Theology and recently completed his PhD at Alphacrucis University College, Brisbane, Australia. He brings several decades of pastoral experience, having served as both pastor and senior pastor in Christian churches across Australia. In addition to his theological and ministerial background, he holds qualifications and has professional experience as a life coach, marriage coach, and mentor. His doctoral research, Heutagogy in Christian Discipleship: A Qualitative Action Research Exploration of Spiritual Growth, advances a new model of Christian discipleship that demonstrates how self-determined learning can cultivate deeper and more sustained spiritual growth. A model of non-directive mentoring was developed and refined as part of his PhD Thesis. In recognition of the significance of this contribution to the field of education, Dr Hukkinen was awarded the 2025 Alphacrucis President\'s Doctoral Research Medal. His passion is to equip churches and universities with practical tools for fostering spiritual maturity that transcends denominational boundaries.
