Details for CRS233 Science and Technology

This course will explore the teaching and learning of Science and Technology in an early childhood and primary setting;
with a particular emphasis on The Early Years Learning Framework and K-6 Science and Technology curriculum and
syllabus developed by NESA and ACARA. It will cover key concepts and approaches in the science and technology
learning area (curriculum and syllabus documents and pedagogy). Teacher Education Students (TES) will explore what it means to work scientifically in a technological age and consider the importance of science for the environment,
communities and individuals and the potential cross-cultural sensitivities and worldviews found in the cultural diversity
of Australian classrooms

Outcomes

  1. Critically examine and review
    curriculum documents and
    approaches based on current
    research into Science and
    Technology practice in the early
    childhood and primary classroom.
  2. Illustrate and compare, with
    reference to classroom practice and
    current literature, the pedagogies
    for the safe, ethical and effective
    teaching of science; analyse the
    different teaching pedagogies and
    produce a personal philosophy and
    code of conduct for science
    teaching.
  3. Develop curriculum materials,
    lesson plans, and assessment items
    for the relevant Early Childhood and
    F-6 Science and Technology syllabus
    within a theoretical and practical
    framework.
  4. Apply skills that demonstrate an
    understanding of the scientific
    method, working scientifically and
    integrating ICT experiences within
    the science classroom.
  5. Illustrate what it means to engage
    students in science and technology
    education and in society and reflect
    on one’s own professional
    development.
