Details for CRS335 Curriculum Studies – Visual Arts: Part B

This subject builds on CRS235 Curriculum Studies – Visual Arts: Part A. Initial Teacher Education Students (TES) will extend their own creative capacities, and their understanding and knowledge of teaching senior visual arts.  It introduces curriculum, pedagogy and assessment and provides the ITES with an opportunity to understand various discourses that inform teachers’ knowledge and practice as well as explore models of pedagogy. The ITES will develop an understanding of how artists operate in the world to make, reflect and examine social and cultural meanings. The TES will also explore the teaching of Visual Arts from a Christian Worldview. It equips the TES with teaching methodologies, assessment tools, and practical strategies to effectively teach visual arts, with a specific emphasis on the NESA Visual Arts Years 11 –12 syllabus.

Outcomes

1. Demonstrate an understanding of syllabus or curriculum documents, including outcomes.
2. Design tasks to assess students’ learning and provide feedback using age-appropriate and differentiated assessment instruments for a range of abilities and diverse backgrounds that integrate historical concept development, skills development, and knowledge acquisition
3. Demonstrate knowledge of students, materials, technologies, and processes related to various genre, historical and contemporary contexts, cultural influences, art theories, and established visual arts codes and conventions and effectively plan and select resources for rich learning that accommodate diversity and enhance problem-based learning including Christian and alternate education contexts.
4. Support students’ wellbeing and safety, legally and educationally, in classroom activities with content, materials, and machines.
5.  Demonstrate a reasoned approach to lesson and unit planning, involving theories and models that are suitable for Stage 6.
