Details for EDU211 Learning and Teaching through Digital Technologies

In this subject Teacher Education Students (TES) will explore how new technologies can be used to support quality learning and teaching in Early Childhood Centres and in Years K-6 based on relevant pedagogical approaches. It will provide TES with an opportunity to understand the various discourses that inform teachers’ knowledge and pedagogical practices, as well as critically engaging with models of pedagogy. It will also consider the impact of technology in the classroom and society. The question will be posed regarding the application of Christian and alternate worldview frameworks on ICT in the classroom and schooling. TES will gain experience in using technology as a productivity tool and in the design and evaluation of learning resources.

Outcomes

  1. Use ICT as a productivity tool to improve efficiency in teaching and associated administrative tasks;
  2. Compare and contrast free and commercial educational software tools (including government sites and resources), mobile apps, web services and online learning resources and specify the implications of the Quality Teaching Framework and Great Teaching Inspired Learning and the Early Learning Framework for ICT;
  3. Apply ICT in the learning environment/ classroom, for students from diverse backgrounds and different learning needs to facilitate quality learning and teaching based on relevant pedagogical frameworks;
  4. Develop interactive online learning resources, including appropriate use of technology in assessment and reporting, which can help parents/carers engage in the learning process;
  5. Use reliable sources of information to keep up with rapidly changing technologies and applications of technology in the classroom;
  6. Critically analyse issues regarding the impact of technology in education and in society.
