지난 5월 23일 시드니 알파크루시스 대학에서 ‘2025 AUC 한국 학술대회’가 열렸습니다. AC 대학원 연구위원회와 한국어 프로그램이 공동으로 주최한 이번 행사에는 한국어 박사과정 연구생, 강사, 신학생, 현지 목회자, 시드니 한인 기독교 미디어 관계자 등 약 80명이 참석했습니다.
발표자인 신찬기 박사는 갈라디아서에 대한 박사 학위 연구를 발표하며 바울의 “율법의 행위”에 대한 비판에 대한 새로운 주석적 관점을 제시했습니다.
신 박사는 바울 서신의 현대적 타당성, 특히 많은 한국 교회에서 율법주의가 엄격한 토라 준수가 아닌 행위 중심의 영성으로 잘못 이해되고 있는 점에 대해 언급했습니다. 그는 갈라디아서 5장이 강조하는 성령이 이끄는 삶을 강조하며, 그리스도인의 정체성은 의식적 순응보다는 믿음과 자유에 뿌리를 두어야 한다고 강조했습니다.
행사는 학생들과 목회자들이 주제에 대해 적극적으로 참여하는 활발한 질의응답 세션으로 마무리되었습니다. 참석자들은 학문적 깊이와 목회적 감수성 사이의 균형을 높이 평가했습니다. 이번 컨퍼런스는 호주 시드니에서 한국어를 사용하는 학자들과 목회자들 간의 지속적인 신학적 대화에 크게 기여했습니다.

A Korean-language conference was held at AC’s Sydney campus on 23 May. Jointly hosted by the Graduate Research School and Korean Language School, the event gathered approximately 80 participants, including Korean HDR candidates, lecturers, theology students, local pastors, and members of Sydney’s Korean Christian media.
The keynote speaker, Dr Chan Ki Shin, presented his doctoral research on Galatians, offering a fresh exegetical perspective on Paul’s critique of “works of the law.” Dr Shin addressed the modern relevance of Paul’s letter, particularly how legalism is misunderstood in many Korean church settings—not as strict Torah observance, but as a performance-oriented spirituality. He highlighted Galatians 5’s emphasis on the Spirit-led life, calling for Christian identity to be rooted in faith and freedom rather than ritual conformity.
The event concluded with a robust Q&A session, where students and pastors engaged actively with the topic. Attendees appreciated the balance between academic depth and pastoral sensitivity. The conference marked a significant contribution to ongoing theological dialogue among Korean-speaking scholars and ministers in Australia.
