One of AC’s professors was recently honoured by the world’s leading scholars in her field. At the latest meeting of the the International Academy for Intercultural Research (IAIR), Professor Lily Arasaratnam-Smith was appointed the president of the Academy. The IAIR is an academic body that facilitates international conferences and a high-ranking international journal that enhances “intercultural relations through world-class social science research.”[1]
The appointment as President recognises Professor Arasaratnam-Smith’s outstanding contribution to the field of intercultural communication. Her publications have been cited nearly 5000 times by other researchers in the field. Her books include the Handbook on Communication and Culture (2025), Communicating in Intercultural Spaces (2025), Developing Intercultural Competence in Higher Education: International Students’ Stories and Self-Reflection (2023), and Perception and Communication in Intercultural Spaces (2011).
