AC’s Korean-Language School brought together counselling and pastoral care practitioners on 21 August 2026 for a research seminar, “Exploring Trauma and Well-being: Insights from Three Experts,” held at AC’s Sydney campus. The seminar explored trauma and mental health from complementary theological and clinical perspectives, with particular attention to the ways churches, ministers and counselling professionals can support individuals and communities affected by trauma.
Associate Professor Kyu Bo Kim of Chongshin University in Seoul opened proceedings with a lecture on “Trauma and the Imitation of Christ,” considering how a Christ-centred framework can inform trauma recovery. His presentation explored the distinctive contribution that Christian theology can make to understanding suffering, healing and renewed life.
Rebecca Loundar, Head of AC’s School of Health and Human Sciences, followed with a lecture on wellbeing and flourishing in ministry. Drawing on her expertise in counselling and mental health, she addressed the importance of sustaining the wellbeing of those who care for others, particularly amid the emotional and relational demands of ministry.
A third keynote address by Elizabeth Lee, Adjunct Lecturer in AC’s Korean Programs and Clinical Supervisor with The Parks Community Network, offered insights into the specific challenges faced by migrant communities navigating trauma and resettlement. Her presentation highlighted the importance of culturally responsive care that recognises the complex effects of migration, disrupted relationships and adaptation to new social environments.
By bringing theological reflection into conversation with clinical practice and community experience, the seminar equipped participants to respond to trauma with greater understanding and sensitivity. It reflects the Korean-Language School’s commitment to research and professional learning that serves churches and practitioners in culturally diverse communities.
