Dr Sam Hey is an interdisciplinary scholar, tertiary educator and Christian ministry practitioner whose work spans theology, biblical studies, sociology, education, psychology, leadership, and Pentecostal and Charismatic studies. His scholarship is particularly concerned with how Christian faith is understood, experienced and embodied within persons, relationships, communities, churches and wider society.
He holds a PhD from Griffith University, awarded for his research on Australian megachurches, published as God in the Suburbs and Beyond. This study examined the theological, historical, sociological and organisational development of megachurches and their leaders. He also holds a Master of Arts in Theology, a Bachelor of Ministry/Theology, a Bachelor of Science and a postgraduate Diploma of Education.
At Alphacrucis University College, he has taught across theology and education programs and supervised research in areas including science and theology, pastoral care and education.
Dr Hey is a Director of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Theological Studies (ANZATS).
