Details for EDU521 Creative Arts

This subject develops preservice teachers’ knowledge and skills to plan, teach and assess Creative Arts (Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts) in K–6 settings from a Christian and other worldviews. Students examine the learning area’s purposes and strands (making and responding), translating curriculum requirements into coherent learning sequences. Emphasis is placed on inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy (e.g., UDL), safe and ethical practice, and the selection of high-quality resources, including appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. The unit integrates literacy and numeracy through arts processes and builds assessment literacy for valid, reliable judgements. It aligns with ACARA The Arts (Version 9.0) and the NESA Creative Arts K–6 syllabuses (2006 current; 2024 for implementation from 2027) and draws on NSW Department of Education guidance for embedding literacy and numeracy within Creative Arts.
