This is a foundational subject for the Master of Teaching program. It introduces the philosophical and theoretical framework for this program and provides an overview of the international and national education context with a specific focus on Australian education policy and curriculum. This subject introduces key educational philosophers and theorists and explores their influence on education with a particular focus on Christian education. It introduces the evidence-based theoretical foundation for students to effectively plan engaging learning sequences and to manage a supportive learning environment.

Outcomes

  1. Critically analyse and discuss how philosophies, worldviews, theoretical perspectives and policy influence and inform teaching and schooling with a specific focus on the Australian education landscape. 
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the Australian education policy context through articulating and applying frameworks, standards, codes of ethics and curriculum frameworks.   
  3. Critically reflect on and discuss the importance of knowing your students and how they learn for learning design and engagement. 
  4. Articulate an understanding of how to create and maintain a safe, engaging and inclusive classroom environment and how the use of effective pedagogy can support this. 
  5. Design a unit of work that demonstrates a foundational understanding of how to embed evidence-based learning theory evidence base and integrates biblical practices and biblical worldview perspectives.  
  6. Articulate how evidence-based theory, practice, biblical practices and worldview are intentionally embedded in lesson plans and units of work.

  8. Planning Units of Work – using Australian Curriculum and NSW Syllabus, building sequence of lessons, and curriculum planning frameworks

  12. Working with Families and Communities to Support Learning
