New Alphacrucis Law School puts ethics and legal foundations at the centre of its vision

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sydney, 5th October 2026 — Alphacrucis University College has received accreditation from the Legal Profession Admission Board of New South Wales for its Bachelor of Laws, marking a major milestone in the establishment of its new School of Law.

Led by Foundation Dean of Law Professor Augusto Zimmermann, the School aims to provide an academically rigorous legal education with particular emphasis on legal reasoning, ethical judgement and the principles underpinning Australia’s legal system.

The four-year Bachelor of Laws has been developed with input from experienced legal educators, practising barristers and senior legal academics, with the first student intake planned for 2027.

The program brings professional preparation together with an educational philosophy that encourages students to engage critically with questions of justice, professional responsibility and the rule of law.

[Proposed quote – Professor Augusto Zimmermann]

“The legal profession needs graduates who can do more than interpret legislation or recall case law.”

“Effective legal practitioners must be able to reason independently, evaluate competing arguments, exercise sound judgement and understand the ethical responsibilities that come with their profession.”

“Our vision is to develop graduates who are intellectually capable, professionally prepared and committed to the pursuit of justice.”

The degree’s accreditation by the NSW Legal Profession Admission Board confirms its recognition for the academic qualification component of admission to the legal profession in New South Wales. Graduates seeking admission must also meet the applicable practical legal training and other admission requirements.

Alphacrucis’s approach draws on its Christian educational heritage while seeking to contribute to the wider Australian legal and academic community.

The new School of Law has also commenced engagement with the legal profession through public lectures and discussions on contemporary questions of law and jurisprudence.

Professor Stephen Fogarty, President of Alphacrucis University College, said the new School reflects the institution’s continuing commitment to education with a meaningful public purpose.

[Proposed quote – subject to approval]

“Our ambition is to develop graduates who understand the importance of their profession and the contribution they can make to the communities they serve.”

“By combining strong academic preparation with an emphasis on ethical leadership, we believe Alphacrucis can make a distinctive contribution to Australian legal education.”

Expressions of interest are now open for prospective students seeking information about the planned 2027 intake.
