1. Evaluate literature and assess the state of the art in a chosen field, synthesising a clear knowledge gap and presenting an opportunity for research and knowledge creation 
2. Formulate a research question and operationalise the question into an appropriate research plan for data collection and analysis using appropriate research methods 
3. Effectively construct a research proposal that demonstrates detailed knowledge of the chosen discipline field and the contribution of the research to this field
