About this Opportunity:
The Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) is responsible for the effective functioning of the counselling & social sciences postgraduate programs in the School of Health and Human Sciences. Working closely with the Head of School, Faculty Operations and Student Experience teams, the DGS provides oversight for postgraduate programs and their delivery in AC’s various campuses and modes. As Senior Lecturer, the role is to teach in the relevant discipline, maintain currency in the discipline through scholarship, research and ensure a positive student experience.

Responsibilities:
PROGRAM OVERSIGHT
- Provide leadership for the development, delivery and improvement of postgraduate programs, including structure, content, pathways, and enrolments, along with Head of School and relevant Discipline Leaders.
- Participate in the application and admission process for all new applicants
- Provide oversight to student progression, including academic advice and advancement, professional readiness relevant to course and readiness to graduate
- Participate in grade monitoring, monitor students’ course progression following internal monitoring of grades process, including determining the outcome of any student appeal for non-progression
- Represent the School’s postgraduate students in HE Student Affairs committee
- Provide oversight for student’s compliance with academic integrity and standards, including academic misconduct.
- Confirm supervision arrangement for supervised projects, where relevant
- Participate in the semester preparation management including timetabling and other course processes
- Produce relevant reports for the annual academic report
TEACHING
- Teaching (lecture preparation and delivery), marking and provision of assessment feedback to students within Higher Education programs in line with AC’s workload model (face-to face, online and blended delivery)
- Subject development and administration
- Administer Subject Coordinator tasks for allocated subjects
- Monitoring, supporting and encouraging students through active engagement inside and outside of formal learning times
RESEARCH
- Continued professional engagement in the discipline area through ongoing scholarship and research
- Provision of research supervision for HDR students completing graduate research studies
- Participate in relevant meeting with HDR team
Required Skills and Proficiencies:
- Completion of a doctoral degree (AQF10) from an Australian university or other recognised Australian or international institution of higher education;
- Qualifications in counselling, psychotherapy and/or psychology, with current or eligibility for accreditation with counselling bodies (PACFA or ACA) and/or registration with AHPRA.
- Commitment to the Christian faith that informs one’s professional and personal choices and commitments;
- Record of research and teaching in relevant disciplinary area
- Clinical experience as a counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling psychologist for at least five years (FTE), or similar.
- Successful experience in academic administration
- Experience working with different stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
- Experience in working with students
- Understanding of Australian higher education framework and standards
- Understanding of course structure and requirements of AC’s postgraduate programs in relevant School
- Understanding of pathways to and from AC’s postgraduate programs in relevant School
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders where relevant
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and provide relevant information and support as required
- Excellent administrative skills
- Strategic thinking and planning skills for continuous improvement of postgraduate programs
- Proven people skills grounded in a genuine respect for others and demonstrated in a range of contexts
- Excellent time management skills
