Unit Content
Curriculum Objective
This subject introduces the pre-service teacher to foundational practices and procedures in primary school contexts. The student will be introduced to a broad range of basic skills, particularly the processes and practices of planning for and reflecting on learning from a Christian worldview. The subject provides a strong foundation in planning for learning and sequencing of learning experiences for years K-6.
Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of practical approaches for the development of positive and productive classroom environment;
- Describe strategies that support students’ wellbeing and safety working within school and/or system, curriculum and legislative requirements;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the realities of working in a school context;
- Discriminate by observation and reflection the practices of professional educators;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in identifying professional learning needs;
- Support teams work within the school communities of practice;
Subject Content
- Core activities of teachers in school contexts; observing, planning, implementing, assessing and reflecting;
- Understanding the primary learning areas for lesson planning; identifying curricula intentions; knowledge and practice of the relevant syllabi; literacy and numeracy indicators across years K-6; be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching;
- Integrating Christian and alternate school perspectives and values across the key learning areas;
- Reflecting on professional experience for personal and professional development;
- Engaging with and contributing to the school community; school policies and procedures; getting organised; extra curricula involvement; excursions and incursions.
