- Develop an understanding of sociological theory and its implications in Australian and global contexts;
- Critically analyse the intersections of social and cultural factors that shape the identity of individuals and communities;
- Examine a broad range of social issues, impacting individuals communities, with consideration given to local and national responses and interventions;
- Critically analyse social differences and inequalities within Australia and consider the impact of individuals on social change.

- Discussing sociological theories and theorists
- The application of sociological theory to ‘real-world’ issues
- How identity is influenced by social and cultural factors
- Key identity markers in Australia such as: gender, sexuality, families, age, ethnicity, religion, sport
- Exploration of social differences and inequalities in Australia in areas such as: class, gender, ethnicity, race, crime, technology
- Understand social transformation
- Explore ways each person can participate in social change
- Understand the need for a broad range of interventions in people’s lives that work in conjunction with psychological interventions
- Engaging with the broader public and policy realms
