Outcomes

  1. Explain the emergence of adolescence and how this has impacted both historical and contemporary youth work;
  2. Construct a ‘map’ of a (specified) local youth work sector and predict possible future directions in youth work;
  3. Apply the principles and guidelines that inform youth work practice to your current or intended youth work practice and develop a personal position statement for youth work;
  4. Plan future study and Professional Development to maintain currency of knowledge and skills for a socially responsible model and practice in working with youth.

  • Definitions of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care
  • The role of a Chaplain/Pastoral Carer in a variety of current Australian contexts
  • Common Chaplaincy/Pastoral Care issues
  • Communicating the gospel in a secular setting (awareness that this is not permitted in many workplaces)
  • The cycle of programming, implementing, evaluating and reflecting in Chaplaincy and pastoral care
  • Reporting to others and accountability as a chaplain or pastoral carer
  • The importance of continuing Professional Development
